Patricia A. Cole

Patricia A. Cole, was born July 13, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska to Dewey and Gladys Schluter. Patricia passed away on May 12, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband James Cole, son, Eric Cole, and brother, Dewey Schluter. She is survived by her son, Christopher Cole of Las Cruces, brothers; Leonard Schluter of Las Cruces and Eric Schluter of Laguna Woods, CA. Patricia graduated NMSU in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in Education and with a Master's degree in Horticulture in 1986. She taught in Las Cruces public schools between 1960-1963. She married James Jerome Cole on December 22, 1962. She was an Editor of Antique Rose Magazine for four years, president of National Association for the Mentally Ill of Dona Ana County. She served as facilitator for Mesilla Valley Book Club for thirty years, a teacher of Journey of Hope. She enjoyed attending university classes, reading, gardening, quilting, scuba diving, bowling, Tai Chi, writing, camping, and lunching with friends. Patricia loved her pets. She earned a living as a landlord and as a manager of pecan orchards. She was most proud of having her Master's Thesis published in the American Journal of Horticulture Science. In her own words "I loved my research and I felt I made a tiny contribution to truth." My biggest thrill was scuba diving. It was so neat just to be able to go down and sit on a rock and think-Gee-look where I am! It is a quiet and wonderful world down here. So I enjoy just taking photos of the fish". Viewing for Patricia will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador Ave. from 6-8 P.M. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19 at the same location to begin at 2:00 P.M. with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery 760 S. Compess Rd.
