Lily Edwards March 9, 1930-May 6, 2012. With stops the world over, Lily Edwards has finally taken to rest. She was born in London, where she met her husband, Leonard of 53 years. Together they journeyed from London to the United States with a stopover in Israel. In the United States they also checked out everywhere. Having immigrated to New York in 1955, they set up residences in New York, Ohio, Illinois, Florida and lastly in New Mexico. She loved caring for her three children, Alex, Peter, and Gary. They were her life. She shared in all their joy and suffered during all their pains. With her husband, she shared the joy of theater. Going to see theater or even more so watching family on the stage. Whether it was Leonard or Gary, to see them perform brought a smile that would not be erased by time. The memories of the theater have lasted her a lifetime. In addition to watching others perform, while in Florida she served as the Director of Entertainment at the Holiday Springs Community in Coral Springs, Florida. She loved to read and passed that quality on to her sons and grandchildren. She was known to read several books in a week. She always preached, "if you want to get ahead you need to learn and if you want to learn read." She was right. She kept her wits about her when everyone else was at their wits end. Although the last few years were filled with medical problems, she would keep a smile and a joke always handy for when the situation was needed. Those who knew her knew of her sense of humor. She was always cracking jokes to the doctors, nurses, and anyone else who happened by. She is survived by her sons, Peter Edwards and wife Beth of Las Cruces and Gary Edwards of Laveen, Arizona. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, David Liban and wife Dolores of Los Angeles. She leaves behind three graddaughters, Lizabeth Schatten, Brittany Edwards and Emily Edwards as well as three great granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her oldest son, Alex, her parents, Bessie and Alexander, her brother, Robert and sister, Marie. Her many cousins, friends, neighbors and others will greatly miss her. A graveside service will be conducted by Rabbi Larry Karol of Temple Beth El on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Masonic Cemetery 760 S. Compress Road in Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mesilla Valley Hospice (La Posada).
